Blog Ten - Workshop
The workshop had finally started! People started showing up about fifteen minutes before 9:00. We got started almost exactly at 9:00 because I wanted to stick to my schedule. I started off by telling the kids a little bit about myself and what we were going to do in the workshop. Then, I gathered all of the kids in a circle and we did a small getting to know you activity. When we finished the getting to know you activity we stated a warm up game that I had planned. We played the warm up game for a few minutes, and then moved on to a game that helped them learn about stage directions. After we were finished with those activities, we were really ahead of schedule, so I taught them a game that I hadn't originally planned on teaching them. The game is called "Whiz - Bang - Bong" and it is a really popular game among the high schoolers at Darby, and the kids loved it! After we played this warm up game for a while, we started on the scripts. At this point, my mentor Debbie, was there to help me. Because I had two skits, she took one group and I took the other. We worked with our groups separately and then kids performed the skits for each other. After they performed, the groups switched skits. We worked on those for a while, and then they performed for each other once again. At this point, the workshop was almost over so I had the kids sit on the stage and I talked to them about some of my experiences in high school theatre. When the workshop was over, I gave them their certificates and went out in the hallway to greet some parents. I got a lot of feedback that actually surprised me. The kids said they enjoyed it , and I had a few kids and even some parents if I was going to do another workshop. It made me start thinking if I would be able to do another. I have also included many pictures from my workshop and a picture of my time log that documents all of the time that I spent on my capstone.
